Occupy UBB Exhibition/ “A.C.T. Democ[k]racy” Eindhoven

The second “A.C.T. Democ[k]racy” exhibition, under the title ”Occupy UBB” is hosted by Onomatopee Eindhoven between May 25th and July 7th 2013. The exhibition is co-produced by AltArt Foundation and collectively developed by a team of curators.

The Occupy UBB displays stories and objects related to the two week Occupy of the Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj, Romania (26.03-09.04 2013).

The stories are told by the community that made the Occupy happen, and are focusing on the collective process of organizing public debates, workshops, formulating claims and negotiating. Alongside the stories objects that were used during the occupy movement are exhibited. These objects serve as gateways to enter the story of the Cluj Occupy. But objects become productive only when are being used, given or circulated so participants are welcome to rearrange, use or take home the exhibits, to bring other objects instead, and post comments narrating their stories related to the objects. No opinion is insignificant, no narrative too small.

After one month the transformed exhibition will be taken back to Cluj. This mediation process can develop a contact surface between Eindhoven and Cluj, where participation is becoming social technology and is producing – in the framework of shared practice of the everyday – common knowledge and common history.

Just as the exhibited stories reveal power relations, dependencies and solidarities among the Occupiers and beyond,  the way you use this exhibition (both stories and objects) should not be mere articulations of pre-coded meanings but hybrid forms of materiality and sociality. Think about how your actions relate you to the Occupy community. This way this exhibition becomes yours and an exhibition about you, too.”  Delegate curator: István Szakáts
